Thank you for purchasing your mini/s. Please treat them as you would your larger equines but with much less feed. Please feed your mini/s between 1 to 3 lbs of grain daily depending on their individual weight/s. However, weanlings under 12 months old should have access to at least 3+ lbs of grain daily and calf manna vitamin supplement is also recommended especially in winter months. After they reach 12 months you can decrease their need for grain to accordance to their weight. Note: winter coats can make minis appear fatter than they really are. Feel through their coats often to make sure you do not feel ribs. Minis can eat all the hay and grass they want provided it isn’t to rich. If you have excellent grass then you can decrease or eliminate grain from their diet. Alfalfa hay is an excellent source of protein for a growing mini foal or mare pregnant or nursing. Fresh water MUST be accessible at ALL times to prevent impaction colic. Dehydration can happen very fast in isolated foals, traveling horses and young weanlings. Make SURE they are getting enough water or they can become critical quickly. Please provide a mineral salt lick at all times and a covered shelter for them to get out of the rain. Hypothermia in minis who are exposed to long periods of rain can KILL them. Please worm your mini/s every 6 to 8 weeks starting immediately when they arrive at their new home to prevent colic and death. DO NOT WORM MINIS WITH QUEST DEWORMER. Fatalities in minis have been reported with use of this wormer. IVERMECTIN is a safe choice and there is no parasite resistance to this drug in equines. Your mini a will need a 4 or 5 way shot of Eastern, Western, Venezuelan, tetanus and flu vaccine shot once when he is 6 months old and again 2 weeks after that. They need a yearly booster from then on. You can get this shot from a feed store and do it yourself OR you can hire a veterinarian to do it. Please do NOT isolate minis by themselves. Doing so can cause ulcers, depression, colic and undesirable behaviors. They are herd animals and need at least ONE other equine (horse) companion. WE will NOT sell a mini to a home without other horses for companionship and an adequate pasture and environment suitable for equine. The horse/s you have purchased are being sold in as is condition.
